Yong Chun Quan [chin .: yǒng chūn quán 詠春拳] or better known as Wing Chun, is one of the most popular Chinese martial art styles and is loved by millions of people around the world, either as a martial art, or as a self-defense system, or simply as an exercise for the maintenance of physical health. Because Wing Chun is a part of life for millions of people, it is decided that on the third Saturday of March, the World Wing Chun Day will be celebrated, which this year fell on March 18, 2017.
On Saturday morning, EPOS, responding to the call of Sifu Pantelias Antonis, who belongs to the pedigree of Grand Master Lun Gai in Foshan Wing Chun, came in the martial arts venu, Athens Martial Arts, hosted by master Michael Kossyvakis in Patissia, in order to celebrate and honor this art. EPOS was followed by cooperating clubs White Lotus, OASKF Aristomachos, OASKFI Wind, KEPOS Southern Suburbs Young Forest, POKESA and KEPOS N. Smyrnis Celestial Dragon and was led by master Stavridis Jordan [Shi Yan Zhuo]. Masters Katakalaios Dimitris, Kokkalas Lambros, Antoniou Efstathia, Delis George, Andrew Banner, Spyros Alexiou, Stavridou Alexandra, Antari Constantina, male and female students lived the festive experience with masters and students from various Wing Chun schools.
For EPOS and its members, this event was of particular concern, as historically Wing Chun originates from Shaolin temple. Male and female students of EPOS had the opportunity to become acquainted with another dimension of Shaolin Culture and enrich their knowledge with this beautiful cultural exchange.
This day was dedicated to Yong Chun Quan, and is a day that gives the opportunity to everyone involved in this Chinese art to get together, with unity, unrelated pedigree, to promote the art as a whole and to honor the masters who spread it. We hope next year many more masters to follow this example. Said the event organizer, Sifu Pantelias Antonis.
