He has also studied Buddhist philosophy and meditation, with Master Shi Hai fa [Chin.: shì hǎi fǎ 释海法 | 1921 - 1997] of White Horse Temple in Luoyang; and study medical qigong under Shaolin Master Shi Yong Hai [Chin.: shìyǒnghǎi 释永海 | 1952 - /].

One of the unique features of Master Shi Yan Zhuo's teachings is his emphasis on the spiritual aspect of martial arts.
