About Liu He Gong

The 6 Harmonious Exercises or Skills are one of the oldest teachings of Shaolin, they belong to the "Shaolin Chǎnqìjiàn" and have not changed over time. It is a set of exercises aimed at strengthening health, achieving mental clarity and eliminating anxiety and depression. Each of the six movements and postures corresponds to a different organ of the body, such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, spleen, liver, and to different meridian channels. It is a Qigong routine in motion and has very clearly the elements of an elementary or original form of Tai Ji Quan [Chinese: Tàijíquán 太极拳]. The basic footwork "cat walk" [Chin.: miáoxíng 猫行] is similar to a variation of the "Whirling Step" [Chin.: Zuoyou Lōuxī Àobù, 电视搂膝汹步] of Tai Ji Quan, while also teaching the using the concepts of "Twisting, Sinking, and Direction" which is a basic teaching in Tai Ji Quan.
