Over the weekend of April 27th and 28th, 2024, a significant event unfolded at the EPOS in Artemis, marking a pivotal moment in the history of Shaolin Kung Fu. The third training seminar in the new Shaolin Kung Fu Duan evaluation system [Chin.: Shàolín gōngfū duàn pǐn zhì 少林功夫], concluded, signaling the completion of the 1st Practice Cycle in the new Official Teaching System of the Shaolin Temple.
The presence of Shi Yan Jia - Stavridou Alexandra [Chin.: shìyánjiā 释延佳], an experienced teacher of the Shaolin tradition, added enormous value to the seminar. Her expertise combined with the guidance of EPOS founder Shi Yan Zhuo [Chin.: shì yán zhuō 释延卓] ensured that participants received authentic and comprehensive instruction, completing an intensive journey into the intricacies of Shaolin forms. In two intensive four-hour sessions, they were thoroughly taught Ta Tong Bei Quan (Level 5) [Chin.: Shàolín dàtōng bèi quán 少林大通背拳 (wǔ duàn 五段)] and Shaolin Xiao Pao Quan (Level 6) [Chin.: Shàolín xiǎo pàoquán (liù duàn) 少林小炮拳(六段)], two of the most ancient teachings in the Shaolin tradition.
In addition, the use of digital platforms for training opens up new possibilities for spreading Shaolin Kung Fu worldwide. By leveraging technology, the Shaolin tradition can reach practitioners in remote areas, fostering a global community united by a shared passion for martial arts and spiritual growth.
The Shaolin Kung Fu Duan rating system represents a modernization of the traditional methods of rating skills and progress within the Shaolin discipline. By introducing structured levels and assessments, it provides students with clear goals and benchmarks for progress, while maintaining the essence and integrity of the Shaolin teachings.
Throughout the course, participants not only learned the physical techniques but also absorbed the philosophy and principles of Shaolin Kung Fu. Beyond mastering the forms, they cultivated discipline, focus, and a deeper connection to the rich heritage of Shaolin.
As the 1st Practice Cycle in the new Official Shaolin Temple Teaching System drew to a close, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and dedication to their practice. The EPOS seminar not only advanced their technical skills, but also instilled a deep appreciation for the timeless wisdom contained in Shaolin Kung Fu.
In conclusion, the recent training seminar at EPOS in Artemis marked an important milestone in the journey of Shaolin Kung Fu. Through the integration of modern techniques with ancient wisdom, the Shaolin tradition continues to thrive and evolve, ensuring that its legacy will last for generations to come.
After pondering the importance of these seminars, Master Shi Yan Zhuo shed light on the overarching mission embedded within the Duanpin Shaolin Kung Fu System.
"Embracing the journey into the Shaolin Kung Fu Duan Evaluation System is an invitation to personal transformation, a commitment to embodying the essence of Shaolin and upholding its rich legacy with utmost respect and pride. Within the realms of EPOS, practitioners forge ahead, meticulously honing their skills with every stance, strike, and breath, guided by the timeless values of discipline, resilience, and harmony. Through this sacred path, individuals not only master the art but also cultivate a profound connection to the spirit of Shaolin, fostering a legacy of excellence and enlightenment for generations to come."
