The general director of Labioni Theater mrs Anita Gaitangi, took the initiative to invite the Greek Shaolin Cultural Organization to present in groups of children Shaolin Rou Quan [Chin: Shàolín róu quán 少林 柔拳], as part of their summer in-city-campus project. The first presentation started at 11: 00pm on Wednesday 24th of June, at the theater’s stage and performed by by master Shi Miao Yuan [Chin.: shìmiàoyuán 释妙原] – Vassilopoulos Ioannis who is an officially recognized martial arts master of EPOS.
Prior to the presentation there was plenty of time to discuss not only with parents but also with member of staff, the therapeutic effects and impact of shaolin rou quan on children. Furthermore, a briefing was made about the principles and the culture of Shaolin, via its martial virtues (shaolin wu de), and the the five skills (shaolin wu gong) that gradually emerge in every practitioner of Rou Quan regardless their age.Children corresponded greatly on several several kinds of Shaolin Qi Gong , traditional shaolin drills, and eventually they familiarised themselves with Shaolin Rou Quan, which constitutes the predecessor and traditional form of Tai Ji Quan.
This time more equipment were recruited to aid the learning process of children and enhance their focus like featherballs (chin: 毽子) combining such, fun and exercise. It was suprising on how quickly they adopted the exercises and how immediate the effect was, on their mood and behavior. It was great pleasure to see some member of staff to practice along with the children witnessing too the calming and soothing effect shaolin qi gong. Children had reached such a state of serenity that allowed them to sit down for a few minutes and further relax.
Mrs Gaitangi thank master Miao Yuan and asked to repeat the presentations for the forthcoming groups.
The end of the session was followed by discussing printed material with member of staff and the director mrs Gaitangi on Shaolin Qi Gong and Shaolin Rou Quan. It was stressed out that the Greek Shaolin Cultural Organization and shaolin arts in general see no age and there are no boundaries in self development, and how important it is to get acquainted with such culture at an early stage.
